#1 Best 1700s Historical Fiction (Listopia)
The second in the fascinating series about the lives of the beautiful Beth Cunningham, her family and friends.
Britain moves ever closer to the 1745 rebellion and the impending attempt to restore the Stuarts to the British throne.
With no other options available to her, Beth marries the effete and tedious social butterfly Sir Anthony Peters.
She resigns herself to a future of formal parties and dismal social gatherings, whilst accompanying a husband who is both tiresome and physically repellent to her, but consoles herself with the thought that if she is not to know love, then at least she will have a secure and comfortable life. It may be uneventful, but she will be free of her brother.
The ink on the marriage contract is hardly dry, however, when Beth makes a shocking discovery, one that turns her world upside down and throws her whole future into doubt once more.
Almost immediately she must make a decision. Will she opt for the safe but dreary life her husband wishes her to lead, or will she fight for a life of passion, adventure and excitement, knowing that in doing so, she risks not only her own life, but the lives of those she loves?
Join the rebellion of one woman and her fight for freedom in…
THE JACOBITE CHRONICLES
The Mask Revealed The Jacobite Chronicles Book 2 edition by Julia Brannan Literature Fiction eBooks
The Mask Revealed is the second novel in the Jacobite Chronicles series. Although Julia Brannan provides a synopsis of the first novel, the Mask of Duplicity, at the beginning of this book, you will be doing yourself a disservice to skip the first novel and jump straight into the second. Mask of Duplicity develops the characters and sets the stage for this second novel. The Mask Revealed pulls you into the intrigue of the European and English courts leading up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Sir Anthony Peters, a walking parody of an English dandy, is not all he seems to be. Beth, unaware of Sir Anthony’s secrets, is forced into his circle to escape her degenerate brother. As the man behind the mask is revealed, Beth is embroiled in conspiracy and plotting; drawn in, but still held at arm’s length.
If, like me, you were lured in with book one and captivated with book two, you are anxiously awaiting book three now. Sadly, there are only two books available from Julia Brannan at this point. I think all of Julia’s new fans will be lying awake for many months thinking about Beth and Alex and wondering where their lives have taken them. I know I will.

The Mask Revealed The Jacobite Chronicles Book 2 edition by Julia Brannan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved this book. Very few errors….very well-written with well-developed characters, and a story line that will keep you reading right to the end.. I recommend this book without hesitation or reservation.
Julia Brannan has done it again. I have read the first book in the series, liked it so well I bought the second one and eagerly look forward to the next one.
The Jacobite Chronicles is quickly drawing me in. Brannan carefully researched the time period, taking you on a wonderful tour of the era. A large cast of characters that you quickly learn to love (and a few instances hate) and hope have a satisfying story line, especially since I realize not everyone can believable survive the conflict. My only complaint is during a scene with Prince Charles the term "recharge his battery" is used, which although appropriate for the reader's era, really doesn't fit the tone & era of the book. Otherwise an amazing read.
Historically correct, with unsuspecting twists and turns, the author writes with a style that keeps you intrigued. This is not only a story of the Jacobite Rebellion but a story of love and family. I guarantee you will love this read!
Ms Brahman certainly peaked the reader's interest in the book before this one (Mask of Duplicity) & this second book in this series did not disappoint.
The era involved, the wars & rumors of wars were fodder for terror.. unless you were rich & of the affluent society, you did not exist. You are convinced of the love between Alex & Beth, whether they are convinced. Some good laughs, some thoughts of history are involved.
The book is definitely worth your time in good reading. Read & enjoy.
When I read book one I was reminded of ' bodice rippers' I had read years ago. But the characters are well developed and fun, the story line historical and interesting. When I finished the first, I had no choice but to buy the second, The Mask Revealed, because I really was very curious as to how the revealing would be accomplished, and how the story would progress. This story drew me in to the point of silently pleading with the author that nothing bad would happen to our heroine and hero! Only negative? Still some typos to deal with...
I read. A lot. I have read thousands of books in my lifetime, and this set (there are six) skyrocketed to the top shelf among the best books I've read. This book, it's visceral, it's real. Parts of it are not pretty. There's death, scandal, intrigue, and characters that still keep me up at night thinking about them--months after I've finished the series. I've read them all more than once. While I'd definitely say this book is rated R, as it were, it's not a raunchy R. There is definitely stuff in here that's somewhat graphic, but it's not done heedlessly or gratuitously in my opinion. It's along the lines of Bravehart. There is that element of gore and graphicness, but it's not thrown in needlessly, though there is some strong language that I could have lived without. Every scene in the books make sense. They are there for a reason. The characters in these books are some of the best drawn and most memorable I've ever read. It this is the sort of genre you like, then you absolutely must read this series. This is a brilliant piece of historical fiction (it even inspired me to do a bit more research into the Jacobites and the Battle of Culloden). I highly recommend it.
Beth learns Anthony’s secrets, and together embark on marriage and adventure - but of course, events and romances do not run smoothly. Well-written, although there were parts where I felt the author resorted to tricks (such as letters to friends) to quickly summarize events “off-screen” which would have taken too many pages to include in the normal flow, as if there was too much actual history that had to be included at that point. Other than that, I enjoyed this one as well as the first, and again am looking forward to the next volume. Which is all that an author can hope, that we’ll keep buying!
